Looking Back at RSD 2021

Record Store Day is an incredible annual event when over 240 independent record shops from across the UK – and thousands more globally – come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion.

As for so many events, 2021 was a unique year for RSD, as the event was split over two different ‘drops’, in June and July.

Absolute had some amazing releases over both days, with special limited edition coloured vinyl from Tallah, Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons and Jamie Lawson gracing shelves across the country.

Nearly 50k records were sold across both drops, representing a 30% year-on-year increase, which given the challenges facing everyone this year, shows what an outstanding job everyone involved did.

The UK’s varied and thriving record stores are a vitally important part of our industry, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their success after an incredibly difficult few years. Congratulations to the artists, stores and everyone at the RSD team for another brilliant year.

See you in 2022!
