What is an Instant Gratification?

Instant Gratification tracks (IGs) are songs that are made available during the pre-order period for people to buy and download individually.

The platforms that support IGs are –

  • Apple Music
  • Amazon
  • Deezer
  • iTunes
  • Tidal
  • YouTube Music
  • Pandora

IMPORTANT: No more than 50% of the album’s tracks can be specified as instant-gratification tracks.

How to price your release with IGs

This table is a quick summary of the total number of Instant Gratification tracks you can have according to the price of your product.

Bundle Tier Number of IGs
Digital 45 £1.49 0
Mini EP £1.99 0
EP £2.49 1
Mini Album 1 £2.99 1
Mini Album 2 £3.49 2
Budget 1 £3.99 2
Budget 2 £4.99 3
Back £5.99 4
Mid £6.99 5
Mid/Front £7.99 5
Front 1 £8.99 6
Front 2 £9.99 7
Front Plus £10.99 8
Deluxe 1 £11.99 9
Deluxe 2 £12.99 9

How are these numbers calculated?

This formula is a good way to calculate how many Instant Gratification tracks you can have on your release:

(Album Price – Track Price) / (Track Price x 1.2 (this deals with currency issues)) = Max Number of IGs

For example, if we had an Album priced at £7.99:

(£7.99 – £0.99) = £7

Divided by

(£0.99 x 1.2) = £1.188

= 5.89 (always round down)

The maximum number of instant grats permitted on this release would be five.
