Shane Filan has earned his first Top 5 album since leaving Westlife, with Love Always having debuted at No.5.
The singer released his third solo LP in a joint venture between his own Ocean Wave Records, production team Metrophonic and Absolute Label Services. Absolute provided a number of services throughout the campaign including distribution, marketing and project management. Absolute’s success with Filan comes soon after the label services company helped deliver a No.2 album for Steps.
Filan’s ‘Love Always’ has been boosted to the Top 5 of the Official UK Albums Chart by extensive coverage across BBC Radio 2 and 80 regional radio stations; national TV such as The One Show, BBC Breakfast, Loose Women and Sunday Brunch; national and regional newspapers and magazines; and a Vevo promotion earning 100,000 impressions.
This is Filan’s first album campaign with Absolute, with his previous solo LPs – 2013’s ‘You & Me’ and 2015’s ‘Right Here’ – peaking at No.6 and No.11 respectively.
Shane Filan said: “This is an album that I’ve wanted to make for a very long time, one that is very close to my heart, so putting it out on my own label and seeing this kind of success is really exciting. I’ve seen the music industry change drastically over my career and, thanks to companies like Absolute, artists are now able to take their careers into their own hands and reap the rewards. It’s an invigorating feeling.”
Filan’s manager Louis Walsh said: “Shane is the best singer I’ve ever worked with and this album is up there with his best work, so it’s great to see him back where he belongs in the charts. Teaming with Absolute for this campaign meant we had tireless support but also a new level of control, both of which are vital to fulfilling Shane’s solo ambitions. The success of this album shows that, if you’re working with an artist that’s as smart as they are savvy, putting them in the driving seat will pay dividends.”
Absolute Managing Director Henry Semmence said: “Make a great record, add a great team of marketing and promo people with totally supportive management, all working hard – and this is what can happen. After the recent success we had with Steps, it’s great to add another Top 5 album here at Absolute, and it’s an honour to have been involved with Shane and his team.”
Senior Label Manager Fraser Ealey, who led the project at Absolute, said: “It’s been great working with Shane and his team on this campaign. He’s an incredibly hard working and focused artist and has been very hands on throughout the process. The PR teams working on the release (NonStop, JBPR, CopMedia and Lara Lee PR) really pulled out all the stops to ensure maximum visibility for what is a superb album.”
Brian Rawling, Head of Metrophonic, said: “The Love Always album was a must for Shane. He and Louis have wanted to do a love songs album for a couple of years. We decided to do it all together and had a great time along the way. Paul Meehan and I loved working with Shane and getting my good friend Henry and the Absolute team on board was the final piece of the jigsaw. Fraser at Absolute and the team have delivered in every area and come up with some great strategies from a marketing perspective, and Joe Bennett and JBPR have more than delivered with the radio plot. Great result so far with more to come.”
