Japanese dance-metal sensation BABYMETAL last night won “Best Live Act” at the AIM INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS. In a fan voted category powered by SONGKICK, BABYMETAL faced tough competition from Caravan Palace, Courteeners, Sunset Sons and Wolf Alice to secure their first AIM Award, a tribute to their incendiary live shows.
This is the fourth award bestowed upon the band in the UK, having previously collected two Kerrang! Awards as well as a Metal Hammer Golden God Award.
Currently preparing for their two biggest shows to date – a two night run in Japan at the legendary Tokyo Dome to 110,000 people – the band were not in attendance to collect the award, choosing former Metal Hammer Magazine editor Alexander Milas, who gave the band their first UK magazine cover, and live promoter Alan Day from Kilimanjaro, who booked their first UK show, to accept on their behalf.
“The UK for us has always felt like our second home since the first time we performed at a festival here over 2 years ago. We’ve been back plenty of times recently performing our first headline show at the SSE Arena Wembley and the support from the UK only ever gets stronger. Thanks AIM for recognizing BABYMETAL and to the fans for voting for us. We are more assured now that we can continue to stay true to ourselves as BABYMETAL!! We look forward to seeing you again in December on tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers. ” — SU-METAL (BABYMETAL)
BABYMETAL will return to the UK in December as special guests to RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS on their arena tour:
05 December London The O2
06 December London The O2
08 December Glasgow The SSE Hydro
10 December Birmingham Genting Arena
